COORDINATOR NEEDED FOR CIRCLE DINNERS
Summit is missing something! It’s our Circle Dinners. They were a most enjoyable way to get to know new people in a social setting. There are folks in  the Summit UU congregation who would like to see the circle dinners get going again, and are willing to help with this effort. The only missing link is someone to coordinate the effort. Please consider taking on this role and watch for future announcements.  Yours, Pat Bryning.

Photography Show, Love Makes a Family is the first Photography show that we have presented at Summit. This is a traveling show distributed by Family Diversity Projects, Inc., presently moving through UU Congregations. The accompanying source book, Love Makes A Family, holds the portraits and stories of many Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender parents and their families. The show will hang in our Greeting Room through March 2010. Questions? Contact Gwen Curry.

Landscape Committee
The Landscape Committee will be interviewing landscape architects in the near future. If you would like to share your ideas concerning Summit's landscaping, please place them in the suggestion box in the Greeting Room. The main goals of Summit's Landscape Committee are: 1.) to conserve water yet have an aesthetically pleasing campus and 2.) to provide outdoor seating around the Salon. Thank you for your support.

Interfaith Shelter Network volunteers needed.  We will again be supporting St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church (March 4th and 11th) and La Mesa First United Methodist (April 15th and April 22nd) with dinner preparation and overnight chaperones. Please contact Vic White for more information.

Humanitarian Assistance
In the wake of devastation wrought by the earthquake which struck the island of Haiti on January 12, 2010, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) are launching a joint relief effort to bring aid to the impoverished island nation. The Haitian Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) estimates 2.2 million people are immediately affected in this nation of 9 million people. Contributions may be made by going to the UUSC website.

Social Action Beyond Our Borders!

Meet Juan Esteban Hernandez Arreola, First Grade.

He requires a full scholarship. He lives with his indigent grandmother because his mother is an alcoholic also addicted to being abused physically.  The school is partially supporting the grandmother as well with a meal every day.

Please make checks payable to Summit with "Esperanza" in the item line. We will need to raise $540 to support Juan’s education.  And thanks for whatever you can contribute!

Food For All - Helping Others In East County
Each Sunday, a basket will be placed outside the sanctuary to collect canned and dried goods. Crisis House is now providing food for more families than ever before (60% increase.) So when you go to the grocery store, pick up a can to help your fellow man (or woman or child!) The basket will be out every week giving us the opportunity to get in the sharing habit.

Questions? Contact Esther Quinn

Crisis House has contacted Summit with a request for child care volunteers while their client moms attend required group session once a week.  If you can help Crisis House, please contact Sharon Hummel 619-444-1194 ext. 306

Back Yard Bounty – Do you have so many oranges, lemons, or grapefruits on your trees you could never use them all? Are you begging your neighbors to take your excess zucchini? On the third Sunday of every month, the Social Action Committee will be collecting any excess backyard produce you may have. If you need help with picking, just let us know. Please talk to your neighbors and see if they would like to donate, also. Collected produce will be delivered to Crisis House and the Santee Food Bank. Thank you! Questions? Contact Gwen Baldwin.

UULMCA - Healthcare Reform
Are you in despair about Healthcare Reform? Do you think the national movement toward more affordable and equitable healthcare is over?  President Obama doesn't think it's over.  So called Tea Party Patriots don't think it's over.  Don't let despair feed your soul. The future depends on what we do today.

UULMCA Action Network is joining communities across the country for 40 days and 40 nights of phone calling and a re-newed commitment to Healthcare Reform - lifting up our hopes for healing, health, and reform.  We invite you to join us in a daily practice of cultivating hope by making one call a day for Healthcare reform.

You can download and print our handy wallet cards (at www.uulmca.org)  for the phone numbers of your elected leaders. Pledge to make one call a day for 40 days and 40 nights. As you call, hold in your heart all who need access to health and hope.
